BBOB v Rugby Lions 13/4/08.

It was always  going  to be a tough  match  against  the  Lions, and they did their best not to disappoint us ! BB played well in patches, and the eventual score probably didn't reflect the amount of dogged determination that the whole squad showed . Well done for a good competitive attitude when faced with a large and well organized opposition.
The best lessons are the hardest ones, so lets take away what we have learned and apply it to our last two games of this season .
Final score  48-0
Man of the match :- Callum for his hard work in defence .

BBOB v Earlsdon 6/4/08

Despite the  snow  BB warmed  up  quickly  to  continue  their  run  of  good  form, with a hard earned victory over Earlsdon , in a game that was both exciting and entertaining to watch . BB had most of the possession in the opening quarter and after a string of penalties BB got close enough for Aiden to crash over the line after a tap penalty . Although some excellent rugby was played neither side could score before the break .HT 5-0
Our lead was further increased after a pick up from the scrum and Joe crossed the whitewash , converted by Hoodie . This gave BB the confidence to move the ball wide and at times we played some really good rugby . The last word on the score sheet went again to Joe as he collected the ball and went over in the corner after  a  brilliant  run from  Matt  J.
Well done to Dan and Josh on your first game of rugby, you did yourselves proud !

Final score 17- 0

Man of the match - Sam Barford , at times it looked like there were two of you on the pitch !

Dates for your diary

The first meeting of the junior committee is on Monday 14th April at 6:15pm in the clubhouse, any suggestions please see Jake (hoody), as Luke is on holiday.

Our end of season dinner will be held on 9th May at the club house. Dress code is shirt and club tie. This is a dinner for players and coaching staff only, but parents will be welcome to attend later for the presentation. Volunteers will be needed to help cook and serve the dinner. We are sharing the evening with the under 14's and 15's and are hoping to get a couple of saints players to present the awards. As the boys are now juniors it is a slightly more formal occasion than in previous years, a sit down meal instead of the usual bun fight!

For those of you that are not going to be at Earlsdon on Sunday, I need to know your vote for players player of the season ASAP.

TOUR 14-16 MARCH 08

Grateful thanks to ARCO for sponsoring our tour shirts.

Unit 1
Monarch Courtyard,
Salthouse Rd,
Brackmills ind.
Northampton

Despite the best efforts by the weather to destroy our tour, we all arrived safely in the New Forrest sporting our very smart new tour polo shirts. The allocated accomodation was superb and we spent the first couple of hours swimming and relaxing. Some of us ultimately ended up more relaxed than others!!.
Saturdays fixture against Worthing RFC was a close fought battle with two very evenly matched sides who weren't prepared to give an inch. BB took the lead quite early and Worthing were fortunate to draw level with a final score of 7-7. After match hospitality was good with England beating Ireland to round off a perfect day. (sorry Maggie, Mairead and Eamon)

Heavy rain overnight did not deter us from playing our second fixture on the Sunday against Bognor RFC. The pitch was slightly wet to say the least but this did not dampen our spirits despite a squad who were tired, battered and bruised from the previous day.  Half time we were 12-5 down which was increased to 17-5 in the first minute of the second half. BB then showed their mettle by coming back to level the score at full time 17-17.

BB players performed excellently over the weekend both on and off the pitch, however some of the adults...................!!!!!
Its a good job what goes on tour stays on tour! (forfeits to follow for Callum, John Swann and Aiden Power)

Junior Committee

Your representatives for the committee are Luke Knight and Jake Hood. If you have any suggestions on how to improve our club at junior level please speak to Jake and Luke , this is your chance to have a say in how your club is run! Alternatively if you have any ideas regarding team building activities  or such like, Luke and Jake can put these to the committee.
First committee meeting is on Monday the 10th March at 6pm in the clubhouse.

BBOB v South Leicester 30/3/08

Another great performance continuing on from our tour saw BB completely dominate South in all aspects of the game . For a change BB started quickly with Matt J weaving his way through the defence to score in the opening minute ! This was followed by tries by Luke (3) , Joe (2) , and Pete all converted by J Hood .
All the coaches  were very  pleased  with  the way the whole squad  implemented  the  game plan  to keep the ball "alive" and  play a wide  game  . Well done lads !
Finally we would like to wish Aaron a quick recovery , get well soon mate .

Final score 45-0 .

BBOB v Brackley 24/02/08

BB started well applying some good pressure to the Brackley line but unfortunately, once again, we lost possession in the ruck and quick hands from Brackley allowed them to run from deep within their 22 to score, which was followed a few minutes later by a second try on the same wing.
Not to be denied, more pressure from BB resulted in Aidan crashing over to open our account. It seemed that we were on a fight back, only for Joe to be judged in touch as he broke down the left wing. Brackley had the last word in this half with another try.
Half time 5-22
Second half saw BB in determined mood with Joe getting his score. This spurred the rest on and twice Jack Ralph looked to be clear only to be driven into touch. Pete showed the backs can score as well as he finished off a good move by going over in the corner. It seemed for a while that BB were going to pull off a remarkable comeback, but despite huge pressure, failed to cross the line. Brackley on the other hand managed to score two further late trys.
Final score 17-34
Man of the match Jack Ralph

BBOB V OADBY 17/2/2008

A dissapointing 1st half performance by BB let a large and well organised Oadby squad run up a 3 try lead. Our inability to play at the same level meant that ,with the exception of some good defending, we were hardly in the game for the first half.
As  usual once we have let the opposition get in front, BB try to come back. We managed to put  some good passages of play together and put pressure on the Oadby line for several minutes with the forwards driving over only to be held up.This said, our defensive performance prevented Oadby from running away with the game.
A much better performance in the second half, with several individuals putting in massive amounts of effort, which will hopefully inspire the whole team to raise their game to a higher level. As a team we have improved dramatically during the course of this season and if we all continue to work hard for each other we will continue to improve and get the results.    Final score 0-25
Man of the match Joe Morrow

BBOB v Oundle 10-02-08

BBOB were forced to field players in unfamiliar positions, due to injuries and unavailabilities to the normal squad.
Having said this the flat 15 which we turned up with gave a very good account of themselves in some fairly poor conditions underfoot.
We were forced to defend for long periods of the first half, however our new defensive tactics again proved its worth and we were unlucky to go into the break 10 nil down. Both tries being scored by Oundles wingers.
Second half. BB started brightly with a good line-out and Aiden once again showign how difficult he is to stop, crashed over the line after a lovely run giving BB there only points of the game. We were unfortunate to concede a further two tries, one of which after some very dubious passing.
This left the final score at 22-10 to Oundle.

Once again a good all round team performance, with everyone working hard for each other in both attack and defence, everyone played a part in this game with lots of players showing some excellent team spirit, never once giving up.

Man of the Match goes to Sam Barford for his high level of defensive performance.

BBOB v LUTON 03/02/08

Both sides started brightly with Lutons number 8 opening the scoring after breakig several tackles during a strong run. Converted.
BB replied shortly after with some strong and determined mauling with Aidan forcing his way across the try line, converted by Hood. BB's defensive line failed to move up after a penalty allowing Luton to once more go ahead before the break. Half time 7-12.
BB's forwards began to take the game to Luton in the second half with some outstanding scrummaging rucking and mauling drawing in Lutons defence and allowing fullback Matt J to show that he is just as good in attack as in defence as he went across in the corner to level the score at 12-12. Lutons No 8 stall had plenty of running left in him and the last score of the game went to him. Full time 17-12.
A much better performance from everyone with players taking on board the mid-week training session and working hard on the pitch. Today you played as a team so be proud of yourselves despite the result.
Man of the match Aidan Power

BBOB v Bugbrooke 27th January 08

Both sides started brightly and BBOB opened the scoring with a brilliant individual try by fullback Matt Joseph who really showed his pace.Converted by Hood. However Bugbrooke responded quickly with a try of their own. This was followed by 5 further tries by Bugbrooke during the course of the match. BBOB played well in patches, but a combination of weak tackling and an inability to take the ball going forward left us trailing in Bugbrookes wake. Our defensive line had improved since last week, but our players need to make their first up tackles low preventing strong runners breaking through.

Overall a dissapointing result which we will be looking to improve upon next week.

Man of the match Matt Joseph for his outstanding tackling. Well done Matt

NB : Jake Humphrey at home and fine after his second visit to casualty this season! Any more visits they will be giving you your own bed Jake!

BBOB V Towcester          20 January 08

The change of venue and late kick off due to waterlogged pitches  did not suit the BB's,  as we conceeded two tries in the first ten minutes of play . A combination of poor tackling and a failure to move up in a defensive line gifted Tow's an early ten points , credit to BB's not to let their heads drop and put in a determined if unorganized defence only conceeding one more try before the break .

The second half saw BB's in a more determined attitude with some outstanding scrummaging providing an excellent platform in both defence and attack, allowing Drew to break through two or three tackles to go under the posts to open BB's account , converted by J . Hood .

However Tow's hit back with a converted try of their own and allthough BB's looked to have broken through Tow's defensive line it was not to be.

Man of the match Alex Byrne

BBOB v Leicester Lions 6th January 2008

Win for BBOB 33-14

This was always going to be tricky due to injuries and unavailable squad members which resulted in several players having to play out of position. BBOB made a good start with an early try by Jake Smith picking up from the base of the scrum and going over under the posts. Lions responded quickly with a converted trygiving them an early lead. Not to be outdone Smith again, combining nicely with Finta, again went under the posts from the back of the scrum, converted by Hood. Lions again responded with a converted try of their own leaving BBob trailing at half time 12-14.

The second half saw BBOB taking control of the match with two tries by Hardwick and a good driving maul try by Lewis, all converted by Hood. Excellent individual performances throughout by everyone and pleasing play by Alex and Chris who showed determination to become involved.

Man of the match Jake Smith
